The television legal drama law and order created by Dick Wolf aired on NBC and other NBC related networks. The well received drama, premiered on the network on the 13th of September 1990 and begun its final primetime 20th season on the 25th of September 2009. The show is run on air for over a decade is ties with Gunsmoke as the longest showing legal drama in American history.

Law and order is set and filmed in New York city and follow the detective police work of discovering a crime and charging a suspect, shown to the audience in the first 30 minutes of the show, then the subsequent apprehension and prosecution of the suspects case by the district attorney�s office in Manhattan; this takes the second half of the show. The plots and theme of the show revolve around actual cases that have made it to news headlines; given the numerous cases that make it to headlines, it is easy to see way the show has lasted this long and maintained a loyal following.

The cast however has changed through all the seasons, with the latest season starring Detective Cyrus Lupo played by Jeremy Sisto, Detective Kevin Bernard played by Anthony Anderson, Michael Cutter the Executive assistant district attorney played by Linus Roache, and Connie Rubirosa the Assistant district attorney played by Alana de la Garza; on occasion the mayors of New York city Michael Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani have appeared on the show as them selves.

Law and order has been so successful that there have been adaptations of the series, internationally. Not only that, there has been several video games and television films based on the show itself and of course franchising of the show itself such as law and order: Los Angeles. Such mainstream success has won the creators of the show numerous accolades and Emmy awards over the years. Such success has led creator Dick Wolf to find new sponsors of the show even after NBC announced that they had cancelled the series on 14th May 2010; the last episode would air to the American public on the 24th of May 2010.
